OxyBot from EduHex Technologies selected as Top National Innovation to fight Covid 19. EduHex envisions manufacturing Indigenous Oxygen Concentrators & CPAP

EduHex Technologies

A Startup incubated at Atal Incubation Centre at IIIT Kottayam. EduHex envisions indigenous capacity building for Oxygen Concentrators, CPAP machines and Critical Care devices. CPAP devices can help save lives by ensuring that ventilators, a precious resource, are used only for the most severely ill. Doctors are finding that a significant proportion of patients treated with CPAP can avoid invasive ventilation.

Products

  • CPAP supports patients with breathing difficulties
  • It works by pushing an air-oxygen mix into the mouth and nose at a continuous pressure, keeping airways open and increasing the amount of oxygen entering the blood stream
  • This breathing aid can be used to help Covid-19 patients with serious respiratory problems to breathe more easily and has been shown to help prevent the need for invasive ventilation
  • Covid19 cases that are not very severe and do not require the help of ventilator support can be treated by the breathing therapy facilitated by oxygen concentrator
  • Compressed air filtered into the concentrator moves to the sieve bed filters which removes nitrogen from the air
  • A six-sided microscopic cube with holes on each side known as Zeolite is present in the sieve bed and this is what helps to remove the nitrogen from air

Our Story

EduHex OxyBot has been selected as one among top three innovations nationally for Covid 19 fight. In this current Covid 19 scenario EduHex has been working on developing indigenous CPAP machines and Oxygen concentrators using open source and off-patent designs. OxyBot devices come in handy at times of non-availability of ventilators, ICU beds and medical staff. The devices have been built indigenously and as a result, their prices are almost half of those of imported ones and ready to deploy in emergency requirements.

OxyBot CPAP device supports patients with breathing difficulties. It works by pushing an air-oxygen mix into the mouth and nose at a continuous pressure, keeping airways open and increasing the amount of oxygen entering the blood stream. This breathing aid can be used to help Covid-19 patients with serious respiratory problems to breathe more easily and has been shown to help prevent the need for invasive ventilation. The design is based on an existing off-patent CPAP system that has been further modified to optimise oxygen consumption.

OxyBot Oxygen Concentrator acts as a medical device that concentrates oxygen from ambient air. It is in high demand due to increasing COVID-19 cases in the country. These concentrators capture and filter the air, unlike oxygen cylinders which can only store a fixed amount of oxygen. Mobile OxyBot units can be operated in remote villages using automobile battery or solar panels. The IoT based models can be deployed to capture medical data to integrate with thrid party telemedicine apps using mobile network.

India heavily depends on imported Oxygen Concentrators even though Prime Minister Narendra Modi sanctioned procurement of 1,00,000 portable oxygen concentrators from the PM CARES Fund. The US-India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF) is sourcing 1,00,000 portable oxygen concentrators through donation from member companies. The concentrators will be shipped immediately to India for use at home and hospitals. While Microsoft has said it will help in purchase of concentrators, Amazon is also collaborating with ACT Grants, Temasek Foundation, Pune Platform for COVID-19 Response (PPCR) and others to airlift over 8,000 oxygen concentrators and 500 BiPAP machines from Singapore. Deloitte has already provided 1,000 oxygen concentrators, it is sourcing another 11,000 concentrators globally.
